About The Eyes of Courage by James A Fisher
AN AMERICA THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN. What would America look like if it had never been overrun by Europeans? This is what Tom Hathaway, a student pilot from Virginia Beach finds out when he is lured through a stone archway in 1976. He enters a world where America does not exist, and modern English is spoken by no one. For reasons he can’t explain, the technology is 75 years behind, even though he didn’t go back in time.
His new life sends him on an adventure that his friends and family back home may never learn about. Overcoming many challenges, he endears himself to the new world and, after marrying the commander’s beautiful daughter, he re-invents the airplane for the alternate history.
Meanwhile, pirates from the South are a constant menace and threaten to punish the navy of Kameechee in the erstwhile Chesapeake Bay. There is great fear in the land that this will lead to invasion and annihilation. Fortunately, Tom has taught his wife’s young cousin—the girl with the eyes of courage—how to fly. Golden Feather, the first female aviator of the world, joins the Kameechee Air Command, and at the tender age of seventeen, steps up to become the ultimate heroine of the story.
