Author Bio:
A first-generation college student, Heather Frederick holds a Ph.D. from Brandeis University. An expert in doctoral education, she has designed and taught graduate research design and statistics courses, served on over 100 dissertation committees, provided consultation on over 1,000 dissertations as an academic reviewer, and taught both land-based and virtual residencies.
An academic leader with over 60 publications/presentations, a self-imposed sabbatical following the unexpected death of her children’s father changed her life course. In 2015 she returned with a mission: to change the way doctoral education is delivered and experienced. Her podcast (the Happy Doc Student) and book are much-needed guides, helping doctoral students graduate with both a high-quality dissertation and their sanity, health, and relationships intact.
When she’s not helping others discover more joy in their journey, you can find her walking outside barefoot, floating in the ocean, dancing to 80s tunes, or trying to get her teenage daughters to laugh (which is no easy task; they are one tough crowd!).
