The Observer: Book #1 in the Spirit Saga by Brian Thompson
In Brian Thompson’s The Observer, the first book in the Spirit Saga, you’ll delve into a profound and thrilling exploration of the afterlife where your purpose is just beginning. Meet Frank, a man who discovers he’s now an Observer, a spirit tethered to the living world. With no memory of his past, he’s thrown into a bewildering reality where he can witness, but not yet directly intervene in, human lives.
Under the guidance of the mysterious Michael, Frank begins to unravel the intricate laws of the spirit world. You’ll discover how spirits operate, from those consumed by anger and misery (Demons), and learn about your own inherent drive to help humanity as an Observer. As Frank grapples with his new existence and the overwhelming pain of human suffering, he’s forced to confront the harsh truths of his post-life purpose and the immense power he unknowingly wields. You’ll follow him as he navigates this strange new reality, learning about his abilities like time travel and the unique challenges faced by Observers.
This gripping debut will pull you into a world unseen, where every choice has spiritual consequences and the fight for balance is eternal. What will you do when faced with the power to observe, but not yet interact?

Author Bio:
Brian Thompson is a word geek with an analytical mind and an imaginative heart. His background in legal tech means he love puzzles and precision, but his passion for stories lets him bend reality and explore the unknown. Both sides fuel his writing, whether he’s geeking out over word origins or unraveling supernatural mysteries.
Brian Thompson was born and raised in Minnesota. His first professional writing foray was as a freelancer for Cracked.com. One of his articles was chosen to be published in Cracked.com’s first physical collection You Might be a Zombie and Other Bad News which made the NYT Non-Fiction bestseller list. Being surrounded by other talented writers, he saw many of them participate in National Novel Writing Month. One November he decided to try too and failed miserably, but it did kick off the start of his first novel, The Observer. Many of the items researched while writing for Cracked.com were inspirations for parts of the novel.
When not writing, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, singing with the Angelica Encore Choral Ensemble, watching Dungeons & Dragons and other TTRPG content, and playing RPG video games.
