About The Order Of Words – What Do You Think Now? by Terence Burgess
The phrase ‘the order of words’ usually makes a person think of sentence structure, grammar, and other rudimentary parts of our past educational process. Initially, it seems like a small topic that was or should have been handled in primary school and we should all be past the need to consider it. We use the basics in speech and writing every day without thinking about the origin or foundation of the knowledge. We have mastered the pieces of language to the point where we use it to convey our ideas and to get our point across. What concerns us now is how effectively we can get our point across using a complex combination of the basics. But the order of words is much bigger than the placement of a subject, the conjugation of a verb, and the existence of an adjective. In a discussion between Presidents, the order of words can create peace between nations, or instigate war. In a rocky marriage, the order of words can calm an argument or instigate divorce proceedings. The order of words can change a little girl’s crying into laughter and give a dying man peace before he slips away from life. It turns out that what you think determines your order of words, and inversely, the order of words determines what you think.

Author Bio:
I have always been interested in the way people use words. That interest has led me to be mindful when I speak so that my grammar and choice of words is correct and intentional. I have found it very useful being able to speak clearly and convey a message to the receiver(s) with a high expectation that they will understand what I am thinking. Knowing that the same message delivered to different audiences requires a custom ‘order of words’, I find pleasure it figuring out which order is appropriate in real time.
