Nolan, struggling with substance use disorder, relapses, and resorts to stealing Buprenorphine from his employer. Henry, facing pressure from his boss Norm over lost heroin, coerces Nolan into helping him recover the missing drugs.
Victoria, aware of Nolan’s relapse, prioritizes her children’s safety and seeks help from Henry. However, when she discovers drugs in Nolan’s car, she leaves him, triggering a downward spiral in his addiction. Desperate for a way out, Nolan confides in Victoria’s mother, Justine, a prosecutor, revealing Henry’s criminal activities. Justine, long suspicious of her ex-husband, sees an opportunity to bring him to justice.
As Nolan attempts to get clean with Justine’s support, Victoria, learning the truth, reconciles with him. Their happiness is short-lived, as Henry, suspecting Nolan’s betrayal, retaliates by administering a lethal dose of heroin. Unbeknownst to Henry, Norm reveals that he orchestrated the heroin loss, exposing Henry’s skimming of drug revenue. Enraged and seeking revenge, Henry’s actions seal his fate.

Author Bio:
Kait left the hills of West Virginia to study communication and journalism at Coastal Carolina University. After graduating and living in California, she returned to her home state to work with youth affected by the drug epidemic. Once she returned, the devastation of drug use became personal, and the inspiration for The Risk of Letting Go. She works in marketing and is writing her second manuscript for another novel.
