About The Rubber Room Volume 1
“The Rubber Room” depicts the story of a couple that was tested by time, faith, and circumstances that challenged their relationship. The author included some history of the Korean War and other intertwining discourses of historic events, making the book one of the best history books. And he had a great way of incorporating history into his story, such as by bringing it up during a family dinner conversation where Katey’s father worked in railroads.
Even with the few characters presented in the book, it is a great help in creating tension between the characters, specifically during the parent-daughter conversations that drastically show the difference between the two generations. For example, the mother-daughter conversation about marriage and intercourse. Furthermore, the unfolding of secrets may not be that satisfying yet, but the characters’ personalities and the setting of the story make it more interesting. That is why it is included in the best history books.
