About The Secret of the Yellow Moon by IJ Alston
An insecure young girl rocked by old family secrets is dragged into a dangerous quest.
Alice is 11 years old and only in the 6th grade when her family is inexplicably attacked on Halloween night. Alice and her brother Davis soon discover that an ancient family secret has thrust them into the middle of a dangerous struggle between good and evil.
Their adventures take them to strange lands where they encounter equally strange characters. They must learn who to trust and how to overcome the obstacles put in their way. But most importantly, Alice must learn to stand up for herself and fight for what is right. The story culminates in a wild race against time, and only The Secret of the Yellow Moon can save them from certain disaster.
The themes are age appropriate for young readers. The story encourages traditional values of honor, respect for others, and standing up for oneself. If you loved the fun and whimsy of the Harry Potter series, you will appreciate the blend of normal kids, magical creatures, funny talking dogs, and a classic hero’s journey.
Will Alice develop the self-confidence to defeat the challenges she faces, or will she chicken out? Will she be able to get over her desire to be popular and learn to stand up for herself?

Author Bio:
IJ Alston is a Middle School Student in North Carolina. During 2020, when she was unable to attend classes due to COVID restrictions, she began home schooling. As part of her English lesson, she and her grandfather began writing this novel. IJ is an energetic 10 year old, who loves Disney Princess, unicorns and mermaids. During their first session, the kernel of an idea formed. The story would involve a magical land, a brother and sister, unicorns, mermaids and a great adventure. From that starting point, the story has blossomed to
include a classic fight between good and evil. The inclusion of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a key element of the story. The setting is based on the real history of the English colonization of the State of Georgia. A mixture of historical research, silly humor, and the classic hero’s journey is the end result.
