About The Thin White Line by Rod Raglin
Matthew Bennett, a freelance investigative reporter, is caught in the middle of the growing political and cultural polarity of our society with deadly consequences.
His criticism of the liberal establishment is threatening his relationships, career, freedom – even his life. When charged with the murder of a BIPOC influencer he turns to the only people who support him, the extreme right-wing. Little does he know that these same people hope to destabilize the government by launching a series of terrorist attacks at public events on Canada Day.
When he uncovers the plot, he’s faced with a choice; warn the authorities and betray those who support him or stay silent and put innocent lives and democracy at risk.

Authors Note: As a journalist, I’ve come to realize that when a concept becomes “baked” into the public’s psyche it most often is false or at least flawed. This is where the idea for The Thin White Line originated, first as an article, then an essay, and finally as a novel.
Issues of race and culture are better dealt with as literary fiction because their complexity demands subtlety and nuance. Nothing is black and white. I situated my protagonist in circumstances where he’d be exposed to the overt and the systemic, the well-intentioned and the misdirected. The research and the writing at times were disturbing, enlightening, frightening and frustrating.
