Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My books take a focus on mental illness and how one is able to function in society. My name is Tierra Montgomery and I am currently a college student studying Information Technology at Middle Georgia State University.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Hearing Kaydance. The inspiration behind that book is my own family’s support when I had experienced a mental breakdown during college my junior year.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I could think of. I just implemented using an outline before I begin writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am influenced by Sarah Dessen, Mildred D. Taylor, and Audre Lorde.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a book called Misdiagnosed. It is about two lesbian characters looking at their mental illness as a superpower in a society that views mental illnesses as less than stellar. It bridges the gap between mental illness and one’s sexuality.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love using Facebook. I have a page called Tierra Montgomery Published Books where I promote my mental illness books or other books catering to sexuality.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Always start with an scene template/outline first. This helps in chronologically placing your storyline in order and helps in figuring out the climax, inciting incident, and resolution.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Create an outline first. Before creating an outline for my books, I would just write whatever went from my mind. Now, the outline helps me in seeing the climax in the story.
What are you reading now?
I am currently reading My Mental Illness At Work. It is a book I created and it is going through the editing phase. I have not been reading much of other books lately since begin writing mental illness books and that has been since September 2019.
What’s next for you as a writer?
There is a mix between writing more books, editing, and book promoting.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring survival books. It is not normally something I would read, but if I am going to be stranded on an island might as well be prepared.
