Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an avid travel and love learning new things, seeing new places and meeting new people. I grew up in North Carolina, USA and have just moved back after living abroad for the last 18 years. My travels have included living and working in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Caribbean.
I have written one fantasy book, entitle The Forging, one professional guidebook to Church denominations in the Middle East and many professional articles and editorials in both English and French.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I have just written and published “The Forging: Book One of the Four Companions Series”
The inspiration for “The Forging” came from years of reading fantasy and playing fantasy based games. After saying to myself, “I need to write a book” I finally sat down and did it!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am very sporadic. Sometimes I can write everyday for a week then I won’t be inspired for several days and will hardly touch the keyboard.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
In the Fantasy realm, I have been heavily influenced by Tolkien, Piers Anthony and R.A. Salvatore.
What are you working on now?
I am now working on the sequel to “The Forging”. I am hoping to finish Book Two of the Four Companions Series within a year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Librarything, Goodreads and book sale sites such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
As well, I went around to local independent bookstores and asked if they would carry my book. Since I was a local author, they all said yes.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Find a friend or colleague that enjoys the genre you are writing and ask if they would be willing to read chapters of your book as you write them. I found their feedback to be very helpful.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Get it done!”
What are you reading now?
“Persian Fire” by Tom Holland. A history book about the Persian – Greek wars of the fifth century.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to finish three more books in the “Four Companions Series” then write a mystery/spy novel that takes place in Europe and the Middle East.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, Bulfinch’s Mythology, Boy Scouts Handbook, The Lord of the Rings (can I take all three?)
