Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
The third book in my Wings of Gold Series (military romantic suspense), just launched! So that brings my book total to six—3 in my military romantic suspense series and 3 in my paranormal romance series (The Community). I have a master’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling (MFCC), and love to create three-dimensional characters with all kinds of angsty vulnerabilities.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
MAN DOWN is the book I just launched. It is the third full-length novel in my Wings of Gold Series about naval aviators. I am a military wife, married to a former naval aviator who served his country for 30 years, and so I am able to draw on real-life experiences for my books about these swaggering pilots.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I like to write in the quiet, but while I’m plotting, I listen to music (usually while jogging).
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m not sure if I can pinpoint one. I’m always reading and learning from everything I read, as much what to do as what not to do.
What are you working on now?
My paranormal romance fans have been clamoring for Book 4 in my Community Series, so I am currently working on that book, entitled MOON-RIDERS.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love Facebook. It allows me to interact with fans.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The publishing world is a tough business right now, with a vast amount of competition. I recommend polishing marketing skills as much as writing craft in order to put your best foot forward.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
In life or about writing? In life I try to follow this quote: “Strive for progress, not perfection.” As for writing, I love this quote from Nora Roberts: “You can fix anything but a blank page.” It makes me keep writing, even on those days when the words aren’t flowing. Just get anything down on the page, I tell myself, even if it’s crap, it doesn’t matter—it’s not the final draft.
What are you reading now?
I can’t say, hehe. I am judging a book contest right now, and so I have to keep those books a secret.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m looking into writing romance-themed articles.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I will offer a cheater answer and say I would bring my Kindle so that I could download books to my heart’s content. I can’t imagine being stuck with just 3 or 4 that I would have to read over and over again. I shudder to think!
But if I’m really pressed to name a favorite book, it would probably be GONE WITH THE WIND.
