About Unclean Hands by James Rosenberg
A Blockbuster Trial with a Mind-blowing Twist
Rick Waterston’s legal practice is suffering. Although he’s stopped drinking, he can’t turn his life around. The ex is hounding him for past child support. His biggest client makes unwanted passes at him and there’s not a lot of money to spread around.
A contentious trial is imminent: Accused of shoplifting, Emily Hawkins’ husband is forcibly detained and dies a horrific death waiting for the police to arrive. Emily hires Rick to sue the store so she can figure out what how her husband died.
Rick has to grapple with the scummy lawyers on the other side–the same people who fired him from his first job and sent him on his downward spiral. No trial is predictable, but Rick has to deal with his overwhelming doubts when witnesses fall apart on the stand and crumble under intense cross-examination. The only hope of convincing the jury that shoplifters have rights is Emily who must stand her ground when confronted with her husband’s dirty secrets.
If you like fast paced, bare knuckled legal thrillers, you’ll love Unclean Hands.
