About Under the dust
The ‘Praeter Imperfectus’ Trilogy resembles one of those unexpected plants that finds in
rubble the ideal humus in which to plant roots. In this case, the substratum is the result of the succession of innumerable sedimentations in which what remains of each era seems to have settled, that is, the version that has been handed down to us of what happened and what really happened, information that History reveals to those who are willing to plumb its depths, instead of merely investigating its surface. Beneath the apparent coherence lies a History contaminated by biased narratives, compromises and riddled with embarrassing gaps that has nothing to envy from the most visionary dystopian fantasies, a backdrop laden with suggestions, perfect for staging drama and intrigue. In the face of a historical narrative marred by so many human foibles, are we really sure we know the world we ‘know’?
What do the appearances of a world founded on deception, the most poisonous fruit of human ingenuity, conceal from us?
‘Under the Dust’ and the following two volumes ‘The Last Daughter’ and ‘Dark Roots’ draw their inspiration from the enigmas guarded by the region of Titicaca and Tiahuanaco. The curious and anomalous initial event resembles the negligible summit of what will end up turning out to be an immense iceberg, the hidden part of which sinks into the ocean of a distant past, in which are suspended secrets and deceptions that over the centuries have flooded the history of humanity with blood.
A fascinating journey that oscillates between the boundless Andean highlands and a decadent Europe that is inexorably sliding into the abyss of two terrifying conflicts.
“Under the Dust”
The traces of a mysterious and indomitable female protagonist lead to an unimaginable past, where the most shocking secret is buried. The truth the world was not meant to know….
Titicaca, 1901: the gloomy oblivion descended on the boundless empires of the past has
failed to silence all the ghosts of such a dark era. And when the striking resemblance
between a young woman sighted on the shore of the lake and the woman portrayed in an
ancient painting casually brings to the surface an affair buried for centuries, the barriers of time fall, shaking the foundations of a power consolidated over the centuries.
With the same, apparent incoherence of a dream, insignificant and seemingly random details combine, outlining a pattern that with the passage of time takes on increasingly worrying connotations. The looming of an inexorable threat unleashes a search to the limits of the impossible, on the faint traces of a woman as defiladed and elusive as a ghost.
The Machiavellian protagonist will cross his path with an enigmatic and beautiful woman who appears to belong to another era: it is an encounter that will mark the destiny of both. When the past resurfaces, opening up fearful cracks in the history the world knows, a man devoured by ambition sees a glimmer of a power that has no limits.
It is only the beginning of a vertiginous journey, balanced on a thread woven of suspicions and forebodings, stretched over the black abyss of a past on which confused memories, poignant lost ties, and untold nightmares float. Echoes of a remote past, too distant to be reached and understood, will begin to drift, silent and secluded, against the background of events, leading the protagonists into an unimaginable world, inexorably distancing them from all certainty.

Author Bio:
Dario Gaz Schreiber lives in the Dolomites, a setting where the magic of the landscapes
contrasts with the boundless silences of wild nature. Silence and solitude are soils in which visions and images easily germinate, on which stories are grafted that seem to have existed
for a long time and were only waiting to be deciphered.
Federico Rosson says
An incredibly gripping book, in which mystery and suspense are well matched by the gothic and evocative atmosphere. A slow re-emergence of truth, entangled for centuries in the layers of deception and intrigue. Protagonists who live up to the plot stand out in a story that continues to offer unexpected and unsettling twists and turns. I recommend it without a doubt.
Maria Francesca Frigo says
Usually I read a book and occasionally I meet the author, in this case it was the other way round, I met
the author and read ‘Under the dust’.
I undertook the challenge to translate it simply because it is a great novel that offers several layers of
interpretation. History strikes a chord from the first chapter, as well as the psychological interpretation of the protagonist’s mind games; along with a philosophical analysis of life itself. And then there are the dreams, highly valuable in such context, just waiting to be deciphered.
It’s a book that captivates the reader showing images as if it were a movie.
I highly recommend reading this book to whoever is open to question their life’s choices and their own certainties.

Under the Dust is a story that bit by bit guides you to immerse yourself in a world steeped in mysteries within which you are drawn in by clue after clue in pursuit of a woman who appears to be a ghost. The plot encapsulates the power of mystery combined with the strength of immortal bonds where the search for origins becomes ever more pressing and the truth suddenly resurfaces with all its force, devastating. Compelling. Intelligent. Thrilling. This novel kept me glued to reading for hours never disappointing in my anticipation of delving deep into its narrative labyrinth, full of suspense and sudden twists and turns. I highly recommend reading this text to all those who enjoy a crisp narrative style, where the writer’s skill lies in his ability to play with words to such an extent, that he weaves the plot of the novel as if it were a large fresco where the reader’s gaze is lost in the beauty of its different colors.

I enjoyed reading ‘Under the dust’ I was absorbed by the plot and some of the unexpected twists that
constantly appear chapter after chapter, inspiring me to explore more about history, geography and
above all human relationships.
The perfection that some female characters appear to have can be misleading when viewed from a
narrow point of view, after all amazing people do exist, and we just need to discover them.
