Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written somewhere around 15-20 books. I used to do cooking, romance, and poetry, but now I only do fantasy and science fiction as they are my favorites.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The School for Humans.
This is inspired by wanting to write a complete epic fantasy series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not so much anymore. But for many years I always wrote with pen and paper. I probably would still do this if it weren’t for my 4 fingered typing. I liked pen and paper because I felt more thoughtful and because when I typed it in I got a nice preliminary edit.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Tolkien certainly – far more than all others put together times ten.
Lewis. Asimov. Salinger.
What are you working on now?
The sequel to The School for Humans and a weird series of sci-fi mysteries YA set way way in the future.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I do the list of actual free promotion sites. This used to be quite a long list when I started some 6 years ago. But now it’s about 30 to 40.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write because you have to.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write for yourself.
What are you reading now?
Nothing right now.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More writing of course.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fellowship of the Ring
Harry Potter 3.
Franny and Zooey
