Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live in Mumbai, India. I used to write when I was in school and college. I participated in many inter-school competitions and submitted poems to Radio programs. I resumed writing poems 3 years ago. I have published 3 books of poetry – Inspire, Reflect and Explore.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am working on my 4th book of poems Savour. “Savour” has been a journey. In November 2016, during my trip to Jodhpur, Jaipur, and Jaisalmer, I came across artists for whom painting was a passion, not just a profession. The seed to collaborate with them took place in my mind. My publisher suggested I do a complete book of paintings and poetry. I started reaching out to artists – within India and internationally for this collaboration. The artists who agreed are featured in this book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I need space to think. I need peace and quiet to delve into my thoughts and write my poems. When I write, I tend to blot out my surroundings.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Poems of various poets have influenced me. The solitary reaper by William Wordsworth, If by Rudyard Kipling, poems by Sarojini Naidu, Rabindranath Tagore, Subhadra Kumar Chauhan, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Maya Angelou, to name a few.
What are you working on now?
I am working on finishing Savour.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am yet to learn the art of promoting my work. I promote by word of mouth, using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and my website.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Follow your passion.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Listen to your inner voice.
What are you reading now?
I am an avid reader. I am reading a few fiction, a few poetry and a few management/self-growth books at present.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I follow my heart and my instincts. I keep an eye for opportunities. Hopefully, more contributions to anthologies, and more books.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take blank notebooks that I would fill with my thoughts and experiences.
