Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Wendy and I am a wife, mother, and soon to be teacher. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia and moved to Texas shortly after graduating high school. After being in an automobile accident, I moved back home and enrolled in college. While studying there I met my husband. We have moved quite a bit due to his job and we are hoping to get back to WV very soon. I am currently working towards my Masters degree so that I can become a teacher.
I have written one book so far called “Tangled Web” and I am working on its sequel “Spider Web”. I am also working on a book apart from that series called “Derailed” and hope to have them both out within the next year to year and a half.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my book is “Tangled Web”. The biggest inspiration for the book was to write something that my daughters would be able to read someday. I love a good mystery but I had a hard time finding one that wasn’t filled with curse words or sexually explicit material. I have a daughter that is young but reads well above her grade level and it is getting harder and harder to find books that challenge her that don’t contain situations that she doesn’t need to be exposed to.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if it is unusual but I prefer to write in the very early morning. Everyone else is asleep and there aren’t any distractions. I make a cup of tea (or two) and engross myself in my work. I usually try to have an outline of what I think is going to happen, but I am always wrong. I guess my characters know better than I do.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I enjoy Meg Cabot, James Patterson, Emily Bronte, Warren Murphy, and so many more. I also enjoy YA and Mystery. The Harry Potter series, Beautiful Creatures series, Twilight, The Forever King, and the list could go on and on.
What are you working on now?
I am working on the sequel to my first book and it’s called “Spider Web”. Once again the story follows Cecile and the rest of the characters although this time the tables have been turned and one of them is in trouble.
I am also outlining another book called “Derailed”. Its about four women who were in the same sorority in college and come together for the reunion. When another member of the sorority is killed, they work together to find out who did it- another “sister” or one of them?
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a Goodreads page that I keep updated and a Facebook page. I also use Pinterest!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not get discouraged! Be confident in your abilities and let your personality shine through. Never let anyone tell you that your work isn’t good enough to publish. Write, read, rewrite, read, have someone else read, and rewrite.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do not worry.
What are you reading now?
Beautiful Chaos
What’s next for you as a writer?
The next step for me is to continue writing. I may never make it as a full time writer and that’s ok for me. Writing is my release, my escape, so as long as there is a story in my head I will put it to paper and continue living my dream.
What is your favorite book of all time?
My all time favorite book is Wuthering Heights- I can pick it up anytime and read it.
