About Why I Survived: How sharing my story helped me heal from dating abuse, armed robbery, abduction, and other forms of trauma by Jennifer Lee
This book recalls four personal experiences of suspense, suspicion, and survival that ultimately lead to my life purpose of helping other survivors.
The first story is of a 3-year long-distance relationship with a man who poisoned my self-worth and fabricated self-doubt on every level. He left me feeling like a torn, tattered ragdoll forgotten in the corner, longing for love and affection. Three years in, I received a startling message that shook my world and revealed a dark secret that I was unknowingly living with this monster.
Six years later, a thought entered my mind when walking down my driveway to my car. What if someone tried to rob your store? I quickly dismissed this thought as crazy and drove to work. That evening, with a store full of customers, I turned around to a masked man shouting, “Give me all your money!” as he pointed a gun at my face. This terrifying situation led to a series of life-altering events.
Ten years later, I met a creepy guy at a work conference who forced his way into my personal space. The triggers and trauma of my past quickly swept over me as I faced yet another scary situation.
The final story is different. It’s heart-touching and impactful. I’ll inspire you with the lessons I learned of intentions, faith, and fear that will reinforce your purpose on this Earth.
You’ll find words of support and pages of resources throughout the book, so you know that you are never alone.
“In Why I Survived, Jennifer pulls us into her hair-raising traumatic stories and helps us understand the physical, emotional, and mental toll trauma takes on us. Simultaneously, she reminds us we’re not alone and encourages us to listen to our intuition, which helps us avoid pain and stay on the right path. On the edge of our seats, we get to see how Jennifer triumphs over her adversities and finds the gift of helping empower others to begin their healing journey by speaking her stories. This book is unputdownable.”

Author Bio:
A decade after surviving an armed robbery and abduction, Jennifer Lee created the I Need Blue podcast. She recognized a need for other survivors to share their stories in a space where they felt comfortable. I Need Blue became that space where survivors feel they belong, are loved, are understood, and feel empowered to share their truth.
In 2021, in an effort to educate and empower more people, Jennifer began speaking before local groups, non-profits, and national organizations. Through her podcast, speaking engagements, and this book, she has given other survivors a person to relate to, information to help them, and a space to share their stories.
In 2022, she was nominated for the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce Hero appreciation week for her efforts in helping other survivors heal.
Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband and dog Joey. In her spare time, she loves to laugh, play dominos, and attend networking events. Besides raising her two sons, who both serve in the Marines, her greatest achievement is helping people everywhere know they are stronger than they think.
