Interview With Author Wilsdaryon Prescher
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 29 years old and I currently live in Houston, Tx. I love reading, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. I am currently working on my master’s in social work. With the hopes of having my own therapy practice for foster children and troubled youth. I have only written one book so far but I hope to write more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Since I was in the 3rd grade I knew I wanted to be a writer. I grew up in the foster system and one of my many escapes was reading books. I loved how the author was able to transport me into this imaginary land that made me forget how bad life was at the time. I knew it was something I wanted to do as well. When I got older the idea of becoming an author slowly faded and my love shifted more toward music When I first decided to write my book “This Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma”. I was in a very dark place in my life. And to help me get through those times I always relied on music. So, when I began to write my book I wanted to incorporate music somehow. This is where I got the idea to base every chapter after a song that sort of could piggyback as the soundtrack to that chapter.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
This being my first book, I honestly just went with the flow. I would think about what part of my life I wanted to talk about, then find the perfect song and write to it. I would listen to the song for about a week straight before I ever wrote the chapter. If I was out in public and had an idea for that chapter I would write it down in my google documents.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
J.K. Rowling, Lemony Snickett and so many more. Many of these authors are from my childhood book series I would read.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am working on promoting my book and finishing school.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be sure to edit and hire professional editors. And do not be in a rush things will work out the way they are supposed to.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my therapist, “there are many things in this world we can not control. But out of all those things, there is only one thing we can control. Which is our reaction to the situation.” When something bad happens to me I think about this quote.
What are you reading now?
I am not currently reading any books at the moment.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to continue writing for foster children. I also want to write a book for new coming foster parents. Sort of the does and don’t to help them understand the mind of a foster child.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
My DSM-5
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
This Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma
