What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of my latest book is “1,111 Interesting, Fun & Age-Friendly Facts for Kids: Inspire Imagination & Smart Thinking in Curious Minds | Discover Amazing Facts on Nature, Science, Space & More—Perfect for Children 8–12 & Family.”
This book was inspired by my deep-seated belief in the power of curiosity and imagination as essential tools for learning. I wanted to create a resource that not only captivates young minds but also sparks their interest in a wide range of subjects. Drawing from my experiences as an educator and advocate for inclusive learning, I crafted this book to be both entertaining and educational, providing a wealth of fascinating facts to inspire children to explore and discover the wonders of the world around them.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My approach to writing is as eclectic as my journey in education. I believe in immersing myself in diverse experiences to fuel my creativity. Whether it’s teaching English in Asia, making music with children, or embracing the challenges of inclusive education, each encounter enriches my writing process.
One might consider it unusual, but I find inspiration in the everyday moments and interactions that shape my worldview. Whether jotting down ideas on napkins or composing passages in the midst of bustling streets, I embrace the spontaneity of creativity. It’s this dynamic approach that infuses my writing with vitality and resonance, inviting readers to embark on a journey of discovery with every page turned.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Several authors and books have left a lasting impression on me, shaping both my writing style and my perspective on education.
Roald Dahl’s whimsical tales, such as “Matilda” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” sparked my early love for storytelling and instilled in me the belief that imagination knows no bounds.
Dr. Seuss’s playful rhymes and colorful illustrations taught me the importance of creativity and thinking outside the box.
Malala Yousafzai’s memoir, “I Am Malala,” inspired me with her courage and unwavering dedication to education, reinforcing my belief in the transformative power of learning.
Lastly, Sir Ken Robinson’s “The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything” challenged my perspective on education, emphasizing the importance of nurturing individual talents and fostering a love for learning.
Each of these authors and books has contributed to my journey as an educator and writer, influencing me to create engaging and meaningful experiences that inspire curiosity and ignite the imagination of young minds.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m delving into a new writing project aimed at further enriching the learning experiences of children. Building upon the foundation of my previous works, I’m exploring innovative ways to engage young minds and foster a deeper appreciation for diverse subjects.
Additionally, I’m collaborating with educators and experts in various fields to ensure that my upcoming project not only entertains but also educates in a way that resonates with children and their families.
Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to embark on this exciting journey of exploration and discovery through the written word!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As an old-fashioned guy, I’ve recently embarked on a journey to embrace social media as a means of spreading my written word. Recognizing the power of these platforms to connect with readers and share my passion for storytelling, I’ve taken the plunge and begun building my presence on Facebook and Instagram (imwisewesley).
Through my Facebook readers page and Instagram profile, I aim to create a digital space where fellow book lovers can come together to explore the worlds I’ve crafted within my written works. While I may be new to the social media scene, I’m excited about the opportunity to engage with readers in a more direct and personal way, sharing behind-the-scenes insights, book recommendations, and updates on my latest projects.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Above all, believe in yourself and your ability to share your stories with the world. The writing journey may have its challenges, but the rewards of seeing your words come to life and connect with readers make it all worthwhile.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is to “embrace failure as a stepping stone to success.” This mindset shift transforms setbacks from roadblocks into opportunities for growth and learning. Instead of viewing failure as a reflection of our abilities, we can see it as a natural part of the journey toward achieving our goals. By embracing failure, we become more resilient, adaptable, and courageous in the face of challenges. It’s a reminder that success is not defined by avoiding failure, but by how we respond to it and continue to move forward despite obstacles.
What are you reading now?
Currently, I’m diving into “Educated” by Tara Westover. It’s a captivating memoir that explores the author’s journey from growing up in a rural Idaho survivalist family to ultimately earning a PhD from Cambridge University. Westover’s story is a powerful testament to the transformative power of education and the resilience of the human spirit. I’m drawn to memoirs that offer insight into different life experiences and perspectives, and “Educated” is proving to be a compelling and thought-provoking read.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, I’m excited to continue exploring new avenues for storytelling and engaging with readers. My next steps involve diving deeper into the worlds of children’s literature and educational content creation, with a focus on inspiring curiosity and fostering a love for learning among young minds.
I’m currently working on new projects that combine my passion for storytelling with my background in education, creating books and resources that not only entertain but also educate and empower children to explore the wonders of the world around them.
Additionally, I’m eager to further develop my online presence and expand my reach through social media, author events, and collaborations with fellow writers and educators. By connecting with readers from diverse backgrounds and communities, I hope to continue growing as a writer and making a positive impact through my work.
Overall, my journey as a writer is an ongoing adventure filled with endless possibilities, and I look forward to the stories yet to be told and the readers yet to be inspired.
