About With Love, Ruthie
It’s November of 1965 in the tiny Appalachian Mountain town of Dry Falls, NC, when Ruthie starts begging her boss for extra shifts and odd jobs; she longs to bring Christmas to her own children as well as her neighbors at Holiday Hill Travel Park. Mama called her crazy; still, she thought Bobby would one day grow up and start taking care of her and their little girls. Ruthie had gotten all too used to scrimping, saving, and bargaining to keep a roof over their heads and barely getting by without his help, but this was an all-new low, even for Bobby. Early one morning, she finds herself pouring her heart out to her best friend and the trailer park busybody, Leona, when she suggests Ruthie write a letter to Santa Claus to make her feel better.
Santa Claus shows up at Jerry’s Diner catching Ruthie unprepared. Over the next twelve days, Ruthie finds herself feeling more alive than ever while she faces moral dilemmas, makes desperate moves, and takes risky measures, mostly in the hope of bringing her idea of Christmas and Santa Claus to Holiday Hill Travel Park. Undoubtedly, she put so much effort into making Christmas happen that she didn’t give much thought to what would happen when it was over. Ruthie finds herself unprepared for the whirlwind of heartbreak she must endure.
