Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a Money Coach but with a twist: I grew up wealthy, watched my parents lose it all, and promised myself when I was 13 that I wouldn’t let money control me. That led me to save over $100,000 three times in my life and retiring by 37. This is my first book although it’s the book I have had in me for years and needed to write for even longer than that. My goal is to help people gain control over their money.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I wrote 27+ Hacks to Financial Freedom after getting laid off from a 9-5 job for the third time and declaring that I was never going back. Although I initially found financial freedom through real estate, I had newfound time on my hands and started exploring the world of “making money online”. Guru after guru promised the moon but after watching 30 of them do their thing, I found an actual winner. The key was knowing the right hacks to win which is the inspiration for the book. There’s 1) the way that everyone does something which gives you average results, 2) the way that you could come out way ahead but potentially risk losing a lot of money, or the third way: the most efficient, most productive way. That’s the foundation of my book and how I teach people to save money.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I just go ๐ I can sit down and write for 14 hours (plus bathroom and food breaks, of course!)
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Without a doubt, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”. I think we’re all caught up in making our parents proud of us. I even dedicated my book to my Dad. He taught me there’s no such thing as “can’t.” He’s not an author, but I learned a ton from his failures and he should have written a book on what NOT to do. Come to think of it, this would make for a great blog post…
What are you working on now?
I’m working on building and monetizing my website wokemoneyhero.com. It’s the most fun and the most work I’ve ever done. Such is the life of the entrepreneur.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Family & friends ๐
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I think there’s a book inside of everyone. The hack is to accept that and do with it what you will. The world can learn something from everyone.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Make savings automatic. That right there will help you grow your savings because you aren’t actively thinking about it. It’s when you think you need things that you run into trouble.
What are you reading now?
I search “ways to grow an audience” quite frequently. Medium is my BFF.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Growing my blog. I’ll be writing continuously every couple of days for the next year.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
-Rich Dad, Poor Dad (as a reminder of how to think different)
-Feeling Good (as a reminder of how to think smart)
-The Secret (as a reminder of how to think big)
