Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a geek, a writer, a reader… I try to do it all. As a result, I’ve got a few books out there: SongMaster’s Realm is my first fantasy novel (the first of a trilogy, perhaps,) a package of humorous essays, and some more technical works.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest is called PiBot: Build Your Own Raspberry Pi Powered Robot. It’s a step-by-step instruction manual of how to build your own small, mobile robot using the Raspberry Pi. I had spent hours and hours figuring it out myself, and thought others might appreciate some help through the process.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. When I’m writing, though, I stick to a schedule. At least 3 pages a day, every day.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read too much to name them all.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my next Raspberry Pi manual, and another full-length novel. Apparently I didn’t learn my lesson the first time.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon’s freebies seem to work well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just do it. Stop telling yourself you can’t, or you’re not good enough, or you don’t have the time. If you want to write, just write. The rest will follow.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
What are you reading now?
The Last Colony by John Scalzi.
What’s next for you as a writer?
A full-length manuscript about the Pi, and the new novel I’m working on.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Impossible to say. Spin, by Robert Charles Wilson, is up there, as is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I’ve always like Richard Bach’s stuff, too.
