Las Vegas isn’t supposed to be where you find yourself. It’s a city of spectacle and reinvention, of bright lights and bold transformations — and for Rebecca Morley, unexpectedly stranded in its dazzling heart, it becomes something she never anticipated: a beginning.
Reeling from betrayal, stripped of the identity she’d spent years building, Rebecca discovers that starting over isn’t a defeat — it’s a door. Through new friendships, unexpected allies, and the rediscovery of her own creative voice, she begins to understand that the life she thought she’d lost may have simply been making room for the one she was always meant to live.
Bracingly honest, quietly triumphant, and shot through with warmth and hard-won hope, Writer-in-Residence is a story for anyone who has ever stood at the edge of a familiar life and felt the pull of an unwritten page.
“A luminous, emotionally rich debut about resilience, reinvention, and the courage to begin again.”
✨ Perfect for readers of Jojo Moyes, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Liane Moriarty, Marian Keyes, and Elizabeth Gilbert, and for anyone who loves contemporary women’s fiction, stories of self-discovery and reinvention, and books about what happens when life hands you an unexpected plot twist.

Author Bio:
J.A. Hoskins has been telling stories since she could first hold a pencil — though it took a few decades in an engineering career, many other written works, and the view from the second half of her century to finally bring them to the forefront.
Born in Canada and now happily anchored on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, she has spent a lifetime reading voraciously across every genre, writing professionally in other voices, and nurturing the fiction that was always hers to tell.
For Jenny, finishing her novels isn’t just about creative fulfillment — it’s about legacy. Not the kind measured in lineage, but the kind measured in stories left behind.
Her fiction explores resilience, reinvention, and the deeply human ways we find our way back to ourselves — themes she knows something about. When she isn’t writing, she can be found hiking, renovating old buildings back to their former beauty, cooking for friends, or treating chocolate as the legitimate food group it truly is.
She is the author of Writer-in-Residence and John, and is currently working on her third novel, The Loreto Ladies’ Luncheon.
