Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello everyone. I am a writer/director of films for my film production company, Michael & Company Pictures. I am also an artist, sculptor, composer, actor, and musician. I have toured part of the U.S. for many years in a band called Only Makebelieve whose album, Message From A Mockingbird, received rave reviews from critics all over the world. I have written six film scripts to date and three of them were taken from the three novels I have written to date. My latest Fantasy Thriller, The Goblin (now on Amazon), was made into a feature film and is now preparing for the film festival circuit as well as world distribution.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest release, The Goblin, came to me as part of a succession of others that I have yet to pen, all of them at once like a tidal wave. There are 18 in total…and will be my life’s work. The idea of The Goblin was so creepy and held my curiosity in such a way that I had to make it part of my repertoire.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing habits are like any other artist’s I’m sure. I am a night owl and the ideas flow in the evenings until late mornings, 2:00-3:00am. I write best when undisturbed and I go into long trances, it seems, of writer’s meditation that usually lasts many months – typically a year. During the writing of a book, I do not visit with friends, leave the house, do anything social, listen or hear the news, and am isolated from all life for months. It brings the story into existence with a great clarity.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was a fan of Tolkien’s work as a child and teen in the 1980s and I’m sure it influenced me to some extent. I’ve always been a fan of Hollywood makeup and monsters to some degree and that has put me on the path I’m on now, making Thriller films and using my art to do it.
What are you working on now?
Now, I’m working on sales and promotion of my new feature film, The Goblin. You can see the movie trailer on YouTube by searching “The Goblin movie trailer”. When this gets settled, I always have a new terrifying novel in the works.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have never found a helpful one yet. Maybe Awesomegang will be the one.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Learn to write. Don’t just sit down and write. 95 percent of all books these days are written very poorly, which makes them garbage – incomplete sentences, wrong punctuation, bad grammar, and certainly most of all…no class. Go back to classic literature when writers knew the English language and learn from them. Also, pay attention in English class in school. Hopefully your teachers are educated properly (some aren’t).
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“With God all things are possible.” That was given to me by the Apostle Matthew in his gospel…Matthew 19:26.
What are you reading now?
The Holy Bible, God’s Word. I think that after 1000 years of going over it, I’ll just be at the beginning of understanding 1/500th of its secrets.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Showing the Literary Agents in NYC that they are some of the stupidest people alive.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring, The Holy Bible, because that would be my way off of the island, a book called “The God Kind of Faith for Total Prosperity” written by Jim Wahlie, a book of prayers and Scriptures to pray over the world, others, and yourself – a collection taken from The Holy Bible, and finally, my mother’s autobiography, Victorious Dreams. It is an uplifting story of her life, her struggles, miracles that God did in front of us all when I was growing up, and her final victory after a long hard life of suffering. That book would give me peace and encouragement if I were stranded on that island…which I feel like I’m on now.
