Interview With Author Yusra Hussain
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a doctor by profession with a lifelong passion for reading and writing. So far, I have authored three books, including a children’s book and two interconnected novels that form part of a series. The series includes Timothy and the Curse of a Black Goat and Timothy and the Mirror Realm, both intricately linked to each other, weaving a captivating and magical narrative.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Timothy and the Mirror Realm. I drew inspiration from its predecessor, Timothy and the Curse of a Black Goat, and decided to take Tim and his friends on another thrilling adventure. This sequel dives deeper into their relationships, challenges, and the magical world they explore, creating an even more gripping and emotional journey for readers.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know whether I should call it unusual but I imagine the characters of my book in my mind as if I’m watching a movie. And I do it again and again throughout the course of my writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I haven’t really taken inspiration from books I’ve read to write my own. However, I often derive ideas from movies and other forms of storytelling, using them as a foundation to craft my own unique narratives. It’s not about copying; it’s about taking inspiration and improvising to create something original and personal to my writing style.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I’m not actively working on anything, but I do have plans to write a third book in the Timothy series. I’m aiming to start on it in a few months, once the ideas fully develop and I’m ready to dive back into Tim’s world for another exciting adventure.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Not quite sure. I guess, word of mouth maybe…
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be consistent. Writing a book requires dedication. Getting an idea is the first step but the difficult part is staying consistent enough to put that idea into words. I’ve experienced this firsthand, and I can confidently say that consistency is the key to turning your vision into a finished work.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never give up
What are you reading now?
Right now I’m reading two books. One is The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky and the other is The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini
What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me as a writer is working on the third book in the Timothy series. While I’m keeping the title under wraps, I’m eager to continue Tim’s journey, bringing new challenges and adding growth to his story.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis
