Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a passionate middle school intensive reading teacher. I live in Miami, Florida. I enjoy reading, writing, hanging out at the beach, exercising, spending time with friends and family, and traveling. I’ve published 5 novels, all of which are part of my Chronicles of the Diasodz series.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The One Awakened (Chronicles of the Diasdoz, Book 5) is my latest book. It is the finale of my series. The whole series was inspired by a dream that I had which woke me up in tears. Within weeks, I had a layout for all five books and spent the next six years writing them.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t believe any of my writing habits are unusual. I map out my plots in a journal and type up my stories on my computer. Pretty normal. ๐
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a big fan of fantasy and paranormal novels. I love JRR Tolkein’s The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry Potter series, the Anita Blake series, the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and the Midnight Breed series. I also enjoy dystopian stories (Hunger Games, Divergent series, etc.). I prefer series books over standalones.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a prequel to my series. As I was writing, one of the characters made it very clear that he want his story told, so I am honoring his wishes. ๐
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promoting is my weak area. I have found the most help from the Rave Review Book Club and its reading and authors.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Join a community of authors. Writing tends to feel like a solitary existence, but when you surround yourself with others who share your passion, it can help inspire and motivate you. Plus, they will continue to help you improve your craft.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Surround yourself with positive energy.
What are you reading now?
Captured Lies by Maggie Thom and Terra’s Call by P.T.L. Perrin are the two books that I’m reading.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As soon as I finish the prequel to my series, I plan to revisit a young adult novel that I wrote years ago but never got around to publishing.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I’d rather bring my Kindle with a supernova type of hotspot and a solar charger. Lol! ๐
