Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a US Army Veteran from Southern California. My world revolves around my two wonderful boys. Creatively my writings always gravitate to the post apocalypse. Currently I have written several books but only successfully published one; Shelter.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest novel is Shelter which is divided into two parts, the first of which is out now. It actually started as a short story, but as I further developed the main character the scope of the project grew. The 2016 presidential election inspired me the most which is highlighted by the book’s overall theme – social and economic division. Witnessing people attacking one another just over who they are going to vote for made me wonder how divided we would become if the world ended. Shelter’s cause to the end of the world is the complete devaluation of money.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Music and darkness mostly. My current “office” is in my walk in closet which isn’t as bad as it sounds. For me, comfort is king. If I am not 100% sitting in a comfortable position, have just the right amount of ambient lighting, or feel too hot or too cold I can’t focus. So, basically, I need a real office asap.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Neal Stephenson, Joe Abercrombie, Noah Caldwell-Gervias, and Joesph Anderson.
What are you working on now?
Currently working on finishing up Shelter Part Two For release.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Most of my readers are my fan base from YouTube and Twitch. Having already established my online persona I am now trying to establish my brand as an author.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. If its one word for ten-thousand, just write. Whenever the words come to mind, get them out and write/type them down.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
In anything you do be consistent. Consistency turns to habit becoming second nature.
What are you reading now?
A Little Hatred, the newest novel by Joe Abercombie.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Part two of Shelter is currently in the editing phase. As for my next project… well… I just hope the characters of Shelter can find their Refuge.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Seveneves because it is hands down the greatest story ever written. The Lord of The Rings Trilogy (there are copies with all three books) to lose myself in an epic fantasy world. A most importantly a bush-craft survivalist guide to get the hell off the island.
