Interview With Author Zuzana Greizingerova
Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Who am I? A writer with her head in the clouds, or a flight attendant with her feet on the ground? I’m a little bit of everything (and nothing properly), but above all, I’m a flight attendant. I even managed to fly my way into the world of VIPs and their private jets. Thirty years ago, however, no one would have guessed that I’d become a flight attendant. I was that quiet, dreamy girl who was always reading something… But the world of airplanes has always fascinated me—after all, airports are packed with stories. (Have you ever tried stopping in the middle of a busy airport and just watching the stories unfolding around you? Why would someone argue before a vacation to the Maldives? And why is that girl in the corner smiling so mysteriously?) Later, I studied journalism, worked as a waitress, then in a magazine, an advertising agency, a travel agency, and then I decided it was time to explore the real world. I packed my suitcase and became a flight attendant. I discovered my braver self and started living my own stories. Altitude and Attitude is my second book. My first book was published only in my native Slovak language and is quite a success back home in Slovakia.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Altitude and Attitude – inspired by many funny stories I came across as a flight attendant.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do everything sitting on the floor. I never use my office desk or at least a normal chair – always writing while sitting on the floor, while having my laptop on the sofa or bed and a lot of handwritten notes around me.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have many favorite authors but J.K. Rowling is my absolute role model. Her sense of humor hidden behind the words inspired me a lot.
What are you working on now?
Right now I’m more flying than writing.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love awesomegang! As I am very new at this, my best promoting channel has just been my Instagram page.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m the one who needs some advice. 🙂
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write about something you know very well.
What are you reading now?
Silo – Hugh Howey
What’s next for you as a writer?
One day I’d like to write a big mysterious book.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Only 3 or 4? All my favorite books come in series… Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Cormoran Strike…
But as I read Silo right now I’d take take the complete series by Hugh Howey – Wool, Shift and Dust
