Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired psychiatric nurse and I have one novel, a psychological thriller, published and available on Amazon. I am in the final stages of finishing my second dark novel which will also be a suspenseful read.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My novel that I have published at the moment is called “Pretty Maidens All In A Row” It has a title pertaining to a children’s nursery rhyme, as will all my novels; my calling card, if you will. The inspiration is not based on anything specific but I had many encounters with psychologically damaged patients in my career. I simply put together a fictional story using my knowledge of mental disorders. According to the positive feedback, I think I got the message across that the human mind is capable of lots of things, good or bad.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really. I have many outlines running through my head and I can sit down just about any time and start typing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
By far the most influential author award has to go to Stephen King. His novel “The Stand” is his masterpiece.
What are you working on now?
I have almost finished a second psychological thriller, again with the nursery rhyme theme, called “They All Fall Down.” It will center around a little girl who has a near-death experience and survives with an ability to “see” things that ordinary people can’t.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
So far, being self-published, I am finding Goodreads to be the most helpful. The other social media giants are not doing much for me. Amazon drives some book lovers my way but the novel is selling itself mostly. The hardest obstacle is getting readers to find it and know it’s available.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Certainly. Make sure your manuscript is polished in every way before publishing it. Have it professionally edited and proof-read. Get a cover done by an expert as well. If you put a book out there that has mistakes you won’t get far with it. Unfortunately with all the self-published books available now there are many that are not very professional because they don’t have to go through the hands of publishers or agents.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
About writing? Never give up. If you think you have something that readers will enjoy and you think it’s as good as any other novel on the market, keep trying. It’s hard work and very tiring but a positive attitude will conquer.
What are you reading now?
Actually I’m re-reading Stephen King’s Novel “The Stand.” Been two years since I read it.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am going to feverishly keep promoting my two novels until they are household names and continue writing other thrillers.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
“Castaway” would be a good choice wouldn’t it, “Silence of the Lambs”, and “Along Came a Spider.”
