Summer of ’68 by Elliot Lei
In this first book in the Steve Kaufman Trilogy, it’s August, 1968 and the nation is divided, again, but not by party-it’s generation versus generation, over a war, politics, race and social class.
Steve, an affluent college student who with three friends are planning to avenge a dying uncle of one by stealing from a company in an attempt to commit the perfect crime at the perfect time, during the infamous Democratic Convention in Chicago.
But then in a summer school class Steve meets Lily, a working class girl who is part of the protest movement at the convention and who, along with the turmoil of the times, changes his life forever.
The three books in the trilogy are the story of one man’s life from college to retirement, coming of age, struggling with love, life, and death, shattered faith, and recovery.
